Richy Carrasco
 Name: Richy Carrasco
Nickname: Brown Bomber, 360 King
Age: 40 years young
Sport: Skateboarding
Where do you reside: I live in Santa Ana, but I claim Garden Grove – that’s my hometown.
How did you get started: Watching my brothers, Rene and David, who were on the Excalibur Skateboarding Team in the early 1970’s. Rick Tunstil (the owner of Excalibur) was gracious enough to give me a board. I probably would have never been able to afford something extravagant like that being from a family of fifteen kids. I was stoked!
How long have you been doing this: Early 1970’s in the free ball bearing era, became the World Champion 360 Spinner in 1977-78. In 1997 I began competing again and won various 360 events. In 1999 slalom racing – most notably in the FCR Series.
Do you have any other hobbies: I still try to be an overall skater and do freestyle skating and 360’s quite a bit. I love to travel with my wife and I really enjoy cooking and eating. Also, my wife and I appreciate antiques – especially clocks and gothic revival furniture.
Are you married, single, kids, pets: Married for 21 years and thanking The Good Lord for giving me such a great wife!! Kids – hopefully soon.
Which people have influenced you the most: I am thankful to God that I can still skate at the age of 40. My Mom has always been the example of the rock of faith! Maria is the reason I have been able to make such a good comeback in skateboarding being supportive and managing most of my affairs. My brothers Rene and David help me to really enjoy skating – since they are both back and racing with me. My brother Roger has shown me that through hard work I can accomplish things. Chicken has inspired me not to settle for second place and all my SSS racing crew brothers continue to push me to be all I can be. John Pope -- my spinning partner and Primo Desiderio for being a powerhouse freestyler!
What are your plans for the future: Some day to be able to hit 200 360’s !! Continue racing and help the next generation learn about old school skateboarding.
Any advise for future generations: Be “real”. Image is temporary and be careful of how you act or what you say – remember it can have a lasting impression. My motto is “treat everyone how you want to be treated”.

Results (ranking): World Champion 360 Spinner, Two-Time Guinness World Record Holder for 360’s, FCR Racing Series – Pro Top Ten, IGSA Regional Slalom Champion 2002 (and on my way for another!) I became the World Champion 360 Spinner in 1977-78. This was the era of the all-around-skater and everyone rode all facets of skateboarding – freestyle, vert, slalom, parks, pools – whatever we could get our hands on! I’ve seen the ups and downs of skateboarding over the years and am stoked to see it on the upswing again. In 1997 I began competing again and won various 360 events. In 2000, I set a new Guinness World Record for 142 continuous 360 revolutions. In 1999 slalom racing started up again and I have been racing ever since – most notably in the FCR Series.
Your most courageous or scariest Pure Guts moment: Racing down the Giant Slalom course at West LA College and confronting the renegade faculty car whose driver decided it was “his” hill and drove through the barriers. I had to charge my line and not back off – Thank God we did not collide. I would probably still be paying for his car repairs . . .
